Chamindika is a Sri Lankan American artist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Formally trained in visual arts, she has taken her art from the wall to the body, with jewelry compositions created from vintage brass components.
During trips back to Sri Lanka, Chamindika fell in love with brass oil lamps and vases—not the bright shiny ones in the shops, but the pieces in her relatives’ homes that had developed a patina over time. The elemental warmth of this brass recalled the found metal pieces she had collected throughout high school and college. The metals’ rich tones and textures elevated them to art objects, their aging process rendering them complex and varied in beauty and history.
This love of aged and reclaimed metal objects is reflected in her line of jewelry, which highlights the warm, elegant nature of vintage brass. Chamindika’s vision for her jewelry is modern, clean lines, while retaining a sense of dramatic intricacy.
